ACT Lock-down Update
20th August 2021
by The Landscape Association
The ACT lock-down has been extended until 2 September 2021 and at this stage construction and landscaping works are still not permitted to proceed during the lock-down.
TLA has been in touch with the Office of the Chief Minister of the ACT as well as the CEO of Master Builders ACT to seek involvement in discussions regarding the re-opening of constructions works in the ACT. In addition we have written to the Chief Minister outlining our concerns for the landscaping sector and calling upon Mr Barr to re-open landscaping from Monday 23 August, under COVID-safe conditions. You can read our letter here. We will continue to advocate on behalf of the landscaping sector and will update members as information comes to hand.
Chief Minister Barr today advised that he has been working with the federal Government to negotiate co-funded business support measures for ACT businesses. Full details of these measures and the application process are expected within the coming days. Meantime, you can read about the COVID-19 Business Support Grant and the Small Business Hardship Scheme here.
We advise members to register their expression of interest in the support measures via the ACT Government site here.
Employees who are unable to earn an income during the lockdown may be able to access the Commonwealth Government’s COVID-19 Disaster Payment. Payment amounts will vary from $200 to up to $750 depending on the hours of work lost during the lockdown and other eligibility criteria.
More information about the scheme and how to apply is available on the Services Australia website.
The Chief Minister has made it clear that the trigger for easing of the lock-down conditions will be in not only the reduction of case numbers but in the degree of compliance observed. He has also noted that WorkSafe ACT and ACT Policing will be conducting random checks on construction sites to ensure compliance.
We strongly encourage all members to follow the orders, to stay home and to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
